Kitt3ns' New Years Furry Ball Report
New Years Furry Ball 2010-2011 was a spectacular success and it blew Protocollie's and my own expectations out of the water. The official attendee count was 146. Nearly DOUBLE what we were expecting!
This was my first time helping out with New Years Furry Ball and I personally had a fantastic evening even though the next morning, my legs were sore, my head ached, and my body was exhausted. Never before have I experienced such a memorable new years. When I think back to the night I am genuinely smiling. I seriously can't wait to do it again next year.
We've already got tons of ideas on what we can do better next year, but luckily we've got approximately 360 more days to iron it all out. We're thinking of trying to have some more events going on for a few of the lulls and try to put a little more focus into the video game section of the event. Of course if you guys have any suggestions on what you want to see us do then let us know!
If you guys are looking for pictures from the event be sure to check out TJ Coyote's page which has links to a lot of the picture galleries for the night! http://tjcoyote.com/events/2010-12-31-ny fb/
And if you guys haven't seen it yet Oreo has produced one of his awesome videos the for a just as awesome night! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3h-u8sKJ v0
( Lots of special thanks under he cut! )
And that's it for the 2010-2011 New Years Furry Ball! Hope to see all of you and more new faces next year!
As always if you have any raves, nays, comments, or complaints then please let us know! The New Years Furry Ball only happens once a year and your comments will help ensure we nail it!

Hey everyone! I'm going to preface this with the fact that while I'm an organizer, this doesn't really constitute an official wrap-up post as I haven't run any of this by kittens - that said. HOT DAMN, guys! I'm so thrilled! Last night went way better than I could ever have hoped for and I'm already bouncing in my seat thinking of next year. By our best approximation, we hit around 140 attendees - we were expecting under a hundred after looking at pre-reg numbers! In fact, final attendance was over DOUBLE that of pre-reg - amazing!
I was working all night and I had a great time - I hope everyone else did, too! I've learned some things - one, that I don't want to be the DJ for new years at all (too much to do and too little focus!) so I'll be trying to find a different person to hand that job off to every year, I don't think I really play the right music or have the attention span on new years' eve to really do the job justice. Two, that I don't dislike running events as much as I thought I did. Three, that the dancing isn't as important to the event as lots of other little things going on - I think next year we're going to try and have more video games and a few other competitions (perhaps with smaller prizes than the big blowout prize) because those seemed to be the most worthwhile ways to spend our budget, though I do think that the lights and music helped. If anyone else has any other thoughts, it'd be greatly appreciated:
Anyway, to sum it up, some particular thanks go out to:
- Protocollie/Costello

Anyway, to sum it up, some particular thanks go out to:
kitt3ns of course - my partner in crime and the entire reason the night was such a success. He found the venue and did a bunch of things at the last minute that pretty much saved everything and everyone should thank him profusely, because if it was me alone, I would have been in trouble! He also donated the projector which we all watched the ball drop on.
giza for his amazing job running registration and keeping that smooth throughout the night - giza's a great guy and a real asset to the community, and anyone who'll sit at a reg desk for hours on end while a party goes on around him is real dedicated to keeping the night rolling.
icepaws also for his hard work at reg, thanks so much dude!- I'm embarrassed to say it, but I totally forget the other people who worked reg. I think I saw Jak there but I'm not sure - the night's quite a blur in my mind, so speak up in the comments if you did and I'll be sure to throw out a thank you.
- Once again, I'm spacing on your name, but whoever loaned us rock band - AMAZING. Thank you so much. I'm sorry about what happened to your disc, but I'm glad we were able to get it sorted.
killercacti (reaux) for making our banner ad, designing our badges, and being an unofficial gopher. She ran out more than once during the event to pick up supplies we needed (HDMI cables, tools) and always did it with a smile - what a trooper!- Lupinespark for also volunteering to do gopher work, AND donating a laptop for the stage setup.
- The hotel staff for all their hard work in keeping everything rolling and actually offering to set up that projector in the lobby (we would have had rock band on a TV otherwise, but felix thought the projector would be better. I tend to agree!)
- ALL OF OUR SPONSORS - I know this sounds corny, but really this isn't my party, or Kitt3ns' - events need organizers and we've fallen into that role but in the end, new years is something that we just help make happen because know everyone loves to get together and celebrate. We're never very structured about it, what makes new years awesome is the people who come and celebrate it with us - it's everyone's party. Our sponsor perks were pretty lame, admittedly, but people sponsored anyway JUST TO HELP OUT, and that's something that means a lot. It helped us not go broke from throwing the event, which is awesome, and it helped set us up to put on bigger, better events in the future. Thank you to everyone who sponsored, because you helped everyone else have an awesome time by doing so.
- Inu-desu for the donation of his laptop that we all watched the ball drop on - wouldn't have happened without him! I think he also ordered us a pizza (again, the night's a blur!) THANK YOU.
- Black foot for his help in teardown!
- All our headless lounge guards! I'm sorry, I was never up there, I dunno who was in there, but THANK YOU.
- All the other folks who chipped in all through the night in small ways - THANK YOU. I'm sorry if I forgot your name, just comment and I'll add you - you deserve recognition because no matter how small the job we asked of you, it was important to keeping the night going smoothly.
- Protocollie/Costello
Last night was the first time I attended the New Year's Furry Ball. And I had a blast!
Things that separated this from a typical New Year's Eve party:
- A dinner that was catered by the hotel, for all attendees
- A dance DJed by
protocollie
- A lovely atrium that served as a great hangout spot, with a game of Rockband going on in one corner.
- Getting to see some friends from the region that I had not seen in awhile
- Hearing the song Shots ft. Lil Jon for the first time. Great party song! :-)

Even though it was more of a party and less of a con, we did end up having to have small registration table, which is where I got to work. I was the guy with the shaved head checking IDs and taking money. The total turnout was somewhere around 150, and from the IDs I saw, we had people from places like Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and at least one person from Massachusetts!
While working at registration, several people asked me, "What does a sponsorship get?" My answer was: "Our undying gratitude".
5 people bought sponsorships on the spot for this reason alone. A 6th came back later and gave us another $15 to upgrade.

So, what was the takeaway from last night?
protocollie and
kitt3ns know how to throw one hell of a party!
For the eBay crowd, this translates to: "Excellent seller - I would totally back this person up in a knife fight"

So, what are you doing for New Years' Eve?
If I were you, I'd be planning on spending an awesome time at the New Year's Furry Ball! Every year, the pennsylvania furries have put together a fun gathering with food, music, and drinks for a one night all-out party to eclipse all other parties. Well over a hundred people have showed up year after year to ring in the new... year... in style! (I've said the word year so much it's losing meaning!) This year (dammit!), however, we've teamed up with The Furst State (who put on awesome events on a more than monthly basis!) to put together a new years' event to beat all other new years events!
Where: The Embassy Suites Newark-Wilmington/South, 854 S College Ave, Newark DE 19713
When: December 31st, 2010 at 8:00pm-1:30am with free AWESOME breakfast the following morning!
How Much: $36 ($35 plus one dollar service fee for the ticket) pre-registration, $40 at the door. If you're feeling extra-charitable, we have the option of buying a 'sponsor' ticket that costs $50. This confers no benefits except our undying love and gratification and the fuzzy warm feeling of knowing you helped make other people feel fuzzy and warm (thanks to all the extra booze and amenities.)
How Do I Pre-Register? Pre-registration is being handled through TicketDerby. To buy your pre-reg tickets, click here. The process is easy, but if you encounter any problems please contact me at protocollie@protocollie.com. We'll announce the date that pre-reg closes in a few days when we have details ironed out. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pre-register if you can. We have to pay the hotel a sum of money that contains four digits in advance of the event and would really like to not have to front it out of pocket - you'll be doing us a great service if you do. Please bring at least an ID with you so we can match it up with registration, but to make things extra fast also bring your printed ticket.
What about a room? We'll have a site soon for you to buy hotel rooms over the internet, but for the time being you can call the hotel at 1-302-368-8000 to book a room - just mention the New Year's Furry Ball. All the rooms in this hotel are suites, and have fold-out sofa beds. You can book either a room with two queen beds or one king, and both are available for the low price of $99.
For more information, our official centralized post on the event is here and you can follow the

The New Year's Furry Ball is back and better than ever with a new venue (that has a waterfall, SERIOUSLY folks.) All the same fun that you've had in previous years will be in full effect but with the added benefit of never having to go outside in January! Everything's bigger - the event space, the rooms, the sound system and our registration link! Also, it'll be awesome! So hah. We'll have the usual entertainment provided - video games, live DJs, lights, fursuits and lots of fun. Your registration includes an awesome buffet dinner, there's a VERY reasonably priced bar (drinks are around $5) and if you arrive early, there will be a cocktail reception with FREE DRINKS (as is my understanding) through the magical medium of drink tickets! There's a pool on-site, as well as a fitness center so you can have an awesome good time and then work out (or go night swimming, woo!) We are going to once again try to plan excursions the following day to extend the event so get in touch if there's something you think would be cool to do!
Do you want to help?
We will need volunteers to help staff registration and other random errands, so get in touch with me at protocollie@protocollie.com if you want to help. Also, we will need DJs. If you want to demo, just toss an e-mail to that same e-mail address with a demo mix and we'll see if you fit in with the vibe of the party! Please, no experimental dub-polka, keep party music in mind. 80s is acceptable, dance is good, rock is wonderful, and if you play the hamster dance I will smack you over the head with a tire iron.
Also, if you would like to donate a console for the evening, please let us know. We'll have someone watching them, and people will be be happy because of it, so that's awesome, right? Okay. Cool. Also, if you have rock band, we would like at least one rock band setup, preferrably with lots of DLC.
